The Free History Project is a 501 (c) (3), film production, distribution and educational outreach organization. Its mission is to advance knowledge of media, history and humanities based-subjects, through independent documentary film and education.
The Free History Project (FHP) was founded in 2001 on the belief that documentary film can overcome cultural, socioeconomic, and age differences to reach a wide range of viewers. FHP is an outgrowth of the documentary film, The Weather Underground.
To enhance its mission to educate, enlighten, and entertain by pushing the limits of documentary, FHP provides assistance on a sliding scale. FHP offers consultation to independent filmmakers about any phase of the filmmaking process and strategies to help people critically engage with film and media.
